Dad was going thru some depression back in the month of March. I could not shake him out of it. He slept most of the time so without calling Bertha she was there for me. She went to Dad’s bedside and talked with him. He told Bertha that he is afraid he will not go to heaven even though he was baptized a few years before. He felt sure that God had not forgiven him of his sins and that he had been bad and he was not able to go to Heaven. I called Connie Knight who was a key instrument in getting Dad baptized and Pastor Neville O’Meally who became my friend a short time at the Village. I called Loretta and Jill and said, “if you want to be a witness something special you need to meet us at the church at 1:00 pm.” Connie and Neville talked to Dad in the Auditorium in private and I found out later he did not share those details of his sins, but after the talk Connie ask me if there was anything else, and I whispered, “he has never told me he loved me in all my years.” So Neville ask Dad, “J.C., do you love Jesus?” Dad said yes, “then say it,” said Neville, so Dad said “I love you!”, Nevilee said “no!”, Connie and Nevilee said, “J.C. say I Love you Jesus and Dad said “I Love You Jesus” So he brings Jill forward and Daddy tell Jill he loves her and then Loretta and then me, and he looks me straight in the eye and tells me he loves me for the first time since I was born.
